Citizens' Police AcademyThe Citizens' Police Academy is a revolutionary concept in law enforcement and community relations. As part of a continuing program to develop citizen awareness and understanding of the role of law enforcement, the Goodyear Police Department created a Citizens' Police Academy designed for citizens of all backgrounds and occupations.
It is a 10 week, training program including both classroom and “hands-on” instruction. Classes are held once a week for approximately 3 hours and include a tour of the county jail and police facilities, role playing scenarios, constitutional law, gang awareness, and demonstrations by specialized police units. Graduates of this course will be better informed citizens and be in a position to relate their experience to friends and co-workers. They will also have the opportunity to express their concerns to police employees.
The 10-week course meets each Thursday evening, September 7 -Nov. 9, 2017, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at:
